Materials
Laser cutting, material by material.
Every metal cuts differently under a fiber laser — a different assist gas, a different practical thickness, a different edge. These pages document how our 3 kW fiber cell handles each material we run, with the thickness, tolerance, and edge quality you can actually hold. For the machine-level view, see our flat sheet and tube laser capabilities.
Mild steel
Mild Steel Laser Cutting
Fiber laser cutting of mild (low-carbon) steel up to 12 mm, with oxygen or nitrogen assist, ±0.05 mm tolerance, and an ISO 9013 range 2 edge.
- 12mm max
- Oxygen (thick) / nitrogen (clean)
- ±0.05 mm (±0.002 in)

Stainless steel
Stainless Steel Laser Cutting
Nitrogen-assist fiber laser cutting of 304, 316, and 430 stainless up to 6 mm, with a bright, weld-ready, oxide-free ISO 9013 range 2 edge.
- 6mm max
- Nitrogen (bright, weld-ready edge)
- ±0.05 mm (±0.002 in)

Aluminum
Aluminum Laser Cutting
Nitrogen-assist fiber laser cutting of 5052 and 6061 aluminum up to 5 mm, with a clean fusion-cut edge on a lightweight, reflective metal.
- 5mm max
- Nitrogen (fusion cut)
- ±0.05 mm (±0.002 in)

Galvanized steel
Galvanized Steel Laser Cutting
Fiber laser cutting of galvanized (zinc-coated) steel — corrosion protection with no post-cut coating step, cut to manage zinc fume and edge condition.
- 12mm max
- Nitrogen or air
- ±0.05 mm (±0.002 in)

Brass
Brass Laser Cutting
Fiber laser cutting of brass up to 3 mm — the short fiber wavelength couples into a reflective copper-zinc alloy older CO2 lasers could not cut well.
- 3mm max
- Nitrogen
- ±0.05 mm (±0.002 in)
View capabilities
Copper
Copper Laser Cutting
Fiber laser cutting of copper up to 2 mm — the most reflective, conductive common metal, cut with a short fiber wavelength and back-reflection protection.
- 2mm max
- Nitrogen
- ±0.05 mm (±0.002 in)
View capabilities
Cold-rolled steel
Cold-Rolled Steel Laser Cutting
Fiber laser cutting of cold-rolled steel (ASTM A1008) — clean, tight-gauge carbon steel for cosmetic enclosures and panels, with a nitrogen-cut bright edge.
- 6mm max
- Nitrogen (clean) / oxygen
- ±0.05 mm (±0.002 in)
View capabilities
Carbon steel plate
Carbon Steel Plate Laser Cutting
Oxygen-assist fiber laser cutting of carbon steel plate up to 12 mm (1/2 in) — baseplates, gussets, and structural brackets at the top of our envelope.
- 12mm max
- Oxygen (thick-section)
- ±0.1 mm (±0.004 in) at plate gauge

Thickness by material
What we cut, and how thick.
Practical maximums on our 3 kW fiber cell. Thinner sections cut faster and hold a cleaner edge; every material starts at a 0.5 mm minimum.
| Material | Max thickness | Typical assist gas |
|---|---|---|
| Mild Steel | 12 mm | Oxygen (thick) / nitrogen (clean) |
| Stainless Steel | 6 mm | Nitrogen (bright, weld-ready edge) |
| Aluminum | 5 mm | Nitrogen (fusion cut) |
| Galvanized Steel | 12 mm | Nitrogen or air |
| Brass | 3 mm | Nitrogen |
| Copper | 2 mm | Nitrogen |
| Cold-Rolled Steel | 6 mm | Nitrogen (clean) / oxygen |
| Carbon Steel Plate | 12 mm | Oxygen (thick-section) |
Maximums are practical limits for a clean production cut on a 3 kW fiber source, not hard machine ceilings. Send your part and we will confirm the cut for your exact gauge and grade.
